Working with youth (children and adolescents) and their families is the "bread and butter" of my clinical practice; that is, I have the most years of experience with this population. Young folks can face many stressors these days, causing worry in their parents/caregivers. I convey to my youth clients that my goal is to help them succeed: at home, at school, in their relationships, and in the community; I have found this approach effective with youth initially resistant to the idea of therapy. My experience spans the age range from 6 to 18 years old, with the following presenting issues:
|
- attention deficit hyperactive disorder
- anxiety - depression - suicidal thoughts, ideation, and attempts - homicidal thoughts, ideation - bullying, cyberbullying - being a survivor of sexual assault - alcohol/marijuana/substance use - post traumatic stress disorder - defiance/noncompliance - low self-esteem - learning and emotional disabilities - aggression and anger - excessive use with social media and video game I primarily provide individual therapy with my youth clients. While I do not specialize in family therapy, I provide support and coaching to parents/caregivers, and also, intermittent family check-in meetings to get everyone on the same page with the youth's and parents'/caregivers' goals. I strive to make it a point early on to get to know my youth clients and establish a strong therapeutic relationship, built on trust and a genuine care for them. I also aim to develop a collaborative relationship with parents/caregivers, joining them with an approach of humility and openness, as they are "experts" of their children. I invite you to contact me, so that we can discuss more about how we can help your child be the best they can be in all the realms of their life. |
